(List of fics either in the final stages of planning or in the process of being written. Just posting this here for quick access since most if not all of these are gifts for some of the people who lurk on this journal. Some of these summaries contain spoilers for their respective fandoms. Subject to change. Arranged alphabetically by fandom.)

Trying to explain why I'm a Kingdom Hearts fan is like trying to explain why I like watching foreign soap operas. I know it's a trainwreck, you know it's a trainwreck, but darn it, I just want to see where this crazy train derails. And maybe see if a couple of the passengers make it through to the end. It's one of those series that manages to be so dumb that it wraps around itself and becomes genuinely endearing.
pettycoat: Marluxia, contemplating murder. (NANI)
Made some progress on Kingdom Hearts 3. Turns out I've been mispronouncing Luxord's name for nearly fifteen years.

This is Mar-luck-sia all over again.

Anyone have any recommendations for lesser-known fantasy fiction? Now that Game of Thrones has crashed and burned and a proper ending to the books seems less and less likely, I've been itching to read something new. I prefer low fantasy over high fantasy and character-driven fiction over plot-driven fiction, but I'm open to just about anything, really. Graphic violence and sexual content aren't a problem so long as they aren't barely disguised masturbation fodder for the author. (Looking at you, Terry Goodkind.)

I'm still alive! Life has just been hectic these past couple of months, and I had to take a little break from the Internet. I unfortunately had to drop out of the latest Small Fandoms Bang, but I've signed up for the 2019 Rare Male Slash Exchange to keep myself busy. The next chapter of There The Rain Raised Mountains is back on the burner (remember when I wrote things?), and I have a few gift fics I still haven't gotten around to posting. I missed so many birthdays here. If you celebrated one since my last post, I want to offer a very belated Happy Birthday! I also started playing Opera Omnia after getting sick of the power creep in KHUX, but I'm still very much a noob and have no idea what I'm doing. I haven't gotten around to beating Kingdom Hearts 3 yet, but going by some of my friends' reactions, maybe it's better that I haven't. Either way, I'll remain cautiously optimistic and try not to let it hurt too much when I get around to finishing a month from now.

Game of Thrones has to have the worst final season I've ever seen in television. That's not part of the update. I'm just still bitter about it.
pettycoat: The Voice hogs the camera as Rider walks past. (neon nightmare)
I swear, my characterization of The Voice is rapidly devolving into *teleports behind you* Nothing personnel, kid levels of silliness. The guy dresses like he's on his way to a Muppet-themed rave, and here I am trying to turn him into a tragic manipulator. Somebody stop me.

Why does he have to talk so much I'm so bad at dialogue aaah

I've been having issues with my laptop's Wi-Fi adapter. Last night, my dog kicked the laptop off the side of my bed. Now I have no issues connecting to the internet, but the laptop fans are making slight crunching noises.

pettycoat: John Freeman is having a poor time. (BAD)
Reading an old KH fic I remember enjoying a decade ago (as you do), and it... certainly hasn't aged well. But I'm getting so much entertainment out of it because the author wanted to give the characters surnames and just stuck them with the names of their English voice actors. Riku Gallagher. Lexaeus Boat. Roxas McCartney. Axel and Kairi are also twins in this universe, so "Axel Panetteire" is a thing that exists. I don't why I've been giggling over "Vexen Stephen Prince" for the past ten minutes, but if anyone in the KH universe would have an ill-fitting middle name, it would be him.

Marluxia Ferguson.

I love the internet.
pettycoat: Kyoya Suda, seen through sightjacking. (SDK)
I want to say Siren is my favorite horror video game franchise (seriously, I prefer it over Silent Hill, and I love Silent Hill), but it's occurred to me that of the measly three games in the series, I've only played two through to the end, and I barely consider one of those a scratch above mediocre. I guess the first game left such a strong impression on me that I'm willing to put up with a lot from its so-so remake. I really need to finish the second game at some point. It's a pain to get working, but it built on its predecessor in a lot of cool and inventive ways, from what little I've seen. I'm amazed more games haven't ripped off the sightjacking mechanic.
pettycoat: "IT WAS DEPRESSING. the end." (yoko taro funtime land)
I've just been told to avoid writing protagonists with problematic views because their status as the protagonist means I'm automatically supporting their actions.

... I think I need to find a new writing group, guys.
pettycoat: Lloyd, Colette, and Zelos take a rest in the grass. (trio)
Forgot to mention that I'm participating in the Fandom Stocking Exchange this year. I've already written some treats for one stocking and plan to write for at least a couple more (not much overlap in fandoms, unfortunately), but I'm having a lot of fun.

(I swear, I thought I linked this already. On the off chance that the person assigned to me finds this, since I can't seem to link directly from my prompt, I'm sorry for making things harder. If you've already got a prompt in mind or a draft ready to go, please don't worry about what I have to say here.)

pettycoat: Marluxia, contemplating murder. (NANI)
For her Christmas gift, a friend has asked me to write "a Marluxia/Vexen story that actually makes sense." I asked for a challenge, and I guess I'm getting one.

Blowing the dust off this thing to drop in a Happy Festivus or whatever holiday you guys feel like honoring this month. I'm probably not going to be active again until after the new year since December in general can get pretty hectic for me. I love Christmas, but I'm not particularly fond of the Christmas season, if you catch my drift. I'm thinking of picking up a couple Kingdom Hearts games again in preparation for 3. I never got around to beating Dream Drop Distance, and I still haven't tried that Aqua-centered one with the ridiculous title. And I call myself a fan.

(Totally throwing this out here, but would anyone be willing to beta read something for me in the next few weeks? It's a Kingdom Hearts oneshot centered around Axel and Roxas--not necessarily in a romantic sense, and definitely not meant to be cute or heartwarming--and will likely feature some death, violence, and general anime angst. I'd go into greater detail, but it's for an ongoing fic exchange, and I don't want to spoil the surprise on the very slim chance that the recipient comes across this post. I'm mostly looking for feedback on characterization and canon accuracy, but I'd certainly be happy to receive criticism on other aspects of the fic! I'm currently finishing up an outline and plan to start writing by the end of the month. Finished product is going to be told from Axel's point of view and is probably going to be between 5,000 and 10,000 words.)
pettycoat: Dark Sun Gwyndolin, masked and staring off into the distance. (ponder)
Kind of a longshot, but would anyone here have any recommendations for vegan cookie recipes, preferably sugar or lemon flavor and without vegan butter or margarine, if that's possible? It looks like I can only afford to give short stories and cookies for Christmas this year, one of my friends is vegan, and I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to searching for the right recipe online. Vegan dairy substitutes are also quite pricey where I live. I'd appreciate any help!
pettycoat: Zelos seems concerned. (ruh roh raggy)
People think I'm joking when I say Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future is the scariest game I've ever played. "Oh, you mean that game about that adorable cartoon dolphin?" No, I mean that game where you're constantly drowning in a murky blue void while giant sea terrors pop out of the fog because the turn of the century wasn't kind to draw distance. You guys can keep Akira Yamaoka. This is what immediately comes to mind when I think of horror video game music.

The soundtrack is fantastic, though.
