(List of fics either in the final stages of planning or in the process of being written. Just posting this here for quick access since most if not all of these are gifts for some of the people who lurk on this journal. Some of these summaries contain spoilers for their respective fandoms. Subject to change. Arranged alphabetically by fandom.)

pettycoat: Marluxia, contemplating murder. (NANI)
For her Christmas gift, a friend has asked me to write "a Marluxia/Vexen story that actually makes sense." I asked for a challenge, and I guess I'm getting one.

I've signed up for the new Past Imperfect, Future Unknown fic and fanart exchange, which focuses on time loops and time travel tropes. Now anyone who's new to my journal is going to learn very quickly that I love writing about time loops, especially in horror settings, so I'm really looking forward to this one. Sign-ups close on December 15. If anyone feels like participating with me, the official community is over here.

"Oh, yeah, I could totally finish this chapter by the end of the month. How long's it going to be? 10,000 words?"

NaNoWriMo's already starting with a crash and burn, but I'm happy to say that I've added to a draft that I haven't touched in nearly five months. I've completely forgotten how to write in a certain character's voice. Maybe tomorrow will be easier since I'm moving on to someone else. Today is also the first day of writing for the Small Fandom Bang, but I'm trying not to touch that until There the Raised Mountains finally gets an update. Speaking of which, only I could jump into editing with the express purpose of trimming something down and then come back to find that I've made a net gain of nearly 1200 words. Aren't I doing swell today?

As much as I struggle with dialogue, I would have thought writing from the point of view of a mute character would be less frustrating than this. I think I can only write so many variations of "X stared." or "X said nothing." before I start to climb the walls.
pettycoat: The Voice hogs the camera as Rider walks past. (neon nightmare)
The fourth chapter of There the Rain Raised Mountains has just broken 25,000 words. It is now almost twice as long as every previous chapter combined. Have a preview before I dive head-first into revisions:

The Voice: WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS
Rider:
The Voice: I feel like I've failed as a father and can no longer ignore the avalanche of emotional instability currently brewing in my brain.
Rider:
Rider: *eyebrow*
Dramatic thunder! Convenient rainstorms! Hamfisted flower symbolism and paragraphs of navel gazing as Petty once again forgets we're in a sci-fi setting!

I am such a hack.

So that Kingdom Hearts/Drakengard 1 crossover I've been screaming about for years on Discord is apparently happening. I don't often write crossovers, but Drakengard is a Square Enix property. It can happen, right? (Pfft.) Frankly I just want an excuse to throw Squall into the deep end and have him try to make sense of the Drakengard 1 cast. The mental image of Caim chowing down on a sea salt ice cream amidst a sea of grinning Disney characters will never not be hilarious to me.

(Real talk, I'm hoping that Nier: Automata's success will let us have at least one Yoko Taro game show up in Kingdom Hearts. Just give me a throwaway mention, Square. Something. Anything. Validate my delusions.)

So the latest chapter of "There the Rain Raised Mountains" is turning out to be just as long (or longer) than all the previous chapters combined. And Scrivener just crashed and deleted three days of progress.

What are you trying to tell me, karma?
