Another introduction

So many new faces! Now I know it was the right choice to leave Tumblr behind, and I'm so happy to see more people here now that I'm finally starting to settle in. Maybe it's just the early-2000s nostalgia talking, but I've always preferred this quieter style of blogging. I'm sure most of you already know what to expect from my journal if you came here from an addme. Either way, here's a proper hello.

I'm currently most active in the Kingdom Hearts and Furi fandoms (expect more KH soon now that KH3 is finally happening), and I'm slowly returning to the Tales of Symphonia and (Forbidden) Siren fandoms now that I have a little more time to dust off some of my older favorites. Other fandoms to look out for are Nier, Drakengard, Dark Souls, Yakuza, and Silent Hill, but really, if it's on my interests list or is a horror game made in the last twenty or so years, expect it to show up in some capacity. This will be a fandom and creative writing journal that may feature stories with disturbing content. I do not tag character death in my work since I consider it a potential spoiler, but I do tag for more generalized graphic violence. Everything will be hidden behind either a cut or an AO3 link. I might occasionally share some original fiction, but that would mostly be for people outside my fandom circles. I look forward to getting to know all of you, and I hope you come to like it here as much as I have. As always, don't be strangers!

I've always hovered on the edge of Symphonia, not the least of which reasons being laaaate acquisition of the game itself and then discovering that GameCube controllers butcher my hands, but I'm still very attached to it (and the Radiant Mythology take on some of the cast, because why not). So while I've gnawed scripts, video and LPs to death, and am familiar with the manga and oav iterations, I've kind of kept a bit of a distance? It felt like cheating to do otherwise, lol.

Someday I'll have the time to get through the whole PS3 rerelease ~

I have fandoms like that too. Metal Gear Solid immediately comes to mind. Maybe you can use this as motivation to give it another try? :P (And wow, the GameCube controller is actually one of my favorites! Then again, I've always had stubby little baby hands.)

I need both the motivation and the time, is the trick, though I'm working on it ;3~ Console games of any stripe have been tricky for quite some time, lol.

(I have stumpy badger paws but I also have arthritis, and for whatever reason this was a bad combination with the GameCube. that's okie though because I have the rerelease now ~)

How is Furi? I keep looking at it in the playstation store and thinking it looks pretty interesting!

Honestly, it was a huge sleeper hit for me and quickly entered the list of my top five favorite games ever made, but it's definitely not for everyone. Furi's gameplay is a challenge. A rewarding challenge, at least for me, but it has a sharp difficulty curve and often demands good reflexes. There's also a little bit of jankiness to it since it's an indie game and (I believe) the dev studio's first non-mobile title, but the jank is mostly limited to things like in-cutscene screen tearing and some... inconsistent animation, so it shouldn't affect gameplay very often. However, I personally loved its gameplay and was surprisingly invested in its story, world, and characters. It has one of those plots that is gradually drip-fed to you only for it to drop an anvil on your face right at the very end, but I think it does it very well. It also has a gorgeous art style, even if some of the aforementioned animation can be quite stiff, and if you love electronic music (and maybe even if you don't), Furi's soundtrack is God-tier. And it has one of my favorite examples of a silent protagonist. I recommend checking out some gameplay videos to see if you think it's right for you. If you feel like trying it out, I'm always happy to talk about it! It deserves so much more attention than it gets.

Interesting! A lot of the thing you're saying about it make it more appealing to me, even if I'm leery of the difficulty curve. I'll put up with rather a lot for good art direction, decent writing, and a solid score! I think I might go check out some Let's Plays or other gameplay videos as you suggest.

Awesome! If you're up for it, I highly recommend the blind playthrough Youtube user Cryaotic did a couple years back. Slowbeef also did a short video series on Furi, though he only plays up to the fourth boss. Both of them genuinely enjoy the game and pick up on the mechanics quickly.

So, who is your favorite character in Tales of Symphonia?

I am a big Regal fan, I love love love him-- but I also like Colette, and Zelos.

Oh yes, and Marta from Dawn of the New World.

Happy to have you too. I think we'll get along just fine! Zelos is definitely at the top of the list for me (Colette's a very close second), but Tales of Symphonia is one of the only JRPGs I've played where I like every member of the main cast, so sometimes it's hard to choose a favorite.

Nice to meet you too! I'm a bit rusty when it comes to LJ-style blogging, but I'm really starting to enjoy it here. I'd say I'm casually into Jfashion (as in I like the look of it and scan the odd blog but don't personally wear it), but my username is actually from a small, stupid in-joke with friends. My sense of humor isn't that great.
