I never thought I'd see a more spectacular implosion than the great LJ Strikethrough of '07. I'm almost feeling nostalgic. Goodbye forever, Tumblr. I'd say it was nice knowing you, but there's a reason I jumped ship long before you decided to fight fire with gasoline.

I'm pretty sure most of us thought Strikethrough was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I mean, even after the ff.n NC-17 purge, which feels almost minor now.

Right? If there's one thing I've learned in my years in fandom, it's that you don't mess with people's smut. This fallout is going to be interesting.

It is kind of amazing how they picked the one thing that was guaranteed to drive off most users - and was a problem of their own making. It's obviously far too much work to properly investigate and remove things sensibly...

Yup. I guess it's a good thing I was never that attached to the platform. Tumblr had its strengths, but I always felt like I was either screaming into a void or playing hopscotch in a minefield.

It's definitely been interesting to watch so far, from a few different fandom angles, including how it's going to play out in comparison to Strikethrough.

(I think, so far, the ship-jumping is much more immediate, if only because there are other boats and not just a vast questionable ocean.)
